about this comic

I drew this during the making of Scott Pilgrim Vol 2. I wanted to mess around a bit, but I guess I didn't want to stray too far.

And so, Monica Beetle. The story was going to be from her point of view, and I filled sketchbook pages with various stabs at narration and all sorts of different takes on her. At some point I did a few sketches of a male character, and he turned into Vincent, and that sort of solidified the story. I was thinking to myself that Vincent was Scott Pilgrim's dad, and he had wild 70's-style adventures in his youth. (Vincent is my dad's middle name, and I had written "Vincent" beside sketches of the dad who appears in Vol 2).

The guy he's with is sort of a 70's version of Scott Pilgrim's friend, Stephen Stills. Oh, and they're smoking because in the 70's, everyone smoked.

Project: Superior is a great comics anthology, and if you can find a copy, I highly recommend it. It is basically out of print and there are no plans to reprint it, so it will become increasingly rare and treasured. That's also why I'm putting this comic online as of October 17, 2005.
